Around 15% of the world’s population, or about one billion people, live with disabilities, and this figure is increasing through population growth, medical advances and the ageing process. Persons with disabilities are the world’s largest minority (WHO)! At the same time, the United Nations reports that 80-90% of persons with disabilities of working age are unemployed in low-income countries. In industrialised countries, this figure is between 50% and 80%.
